Left 4 Dead emerged from a small Washington town called Rainier, unleashing a distinct kind of melodic hard rock inspired by bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Kiss, and Rush. The trio, consisting of lead guitarist/vocalist, “Shredder” Lee Taylor, bassist/vocalist “Crazy” Rick Prather, and drummer Brian Knapp, was founded by Taylor and Prather through their previous band called My Dead Monster. After a mishap with one of My Dead Monster’s former members, Taylor and Prather teamed up, embarking on their own musical journey. Once the band recruited Knapp following several short-lived drummers, Left 4 Dead was alive.
Left 4 Dead’s music sets them apart from the rest. While remaining true to their influences, the band has an original sound jammed with raw, shredding leads, hammering rhythms, and memorable, harmonized vocals. Not only is the music well-crafted, so are the lyrics, as the band takes the intellectual approach, taking listeners on a heavy, introspective journey, displaying Taylor and Prather’s songwriting abilities.
With enduring music, along with their dark image, Left 4 Dead’s live performances are intensely energetic. Playing every show as if it was their last, Left 4 Dead’s stage shows attract fans and hit them hard with their signature wall of sound, making the band a memorable act. Left 4 Dead give more than just great music, however, and when they’re not jamming or playing gigs, they like to spend time supporting children from domestic violence cases, donating toys to various organizations.
Even though Left 4 Dead admits that living the musical life can sometimes be tough, it’s definitely treating them well, and their their fan following and notoriety is continuously expanding. Currently the band is unsigned, and their focus remains on writing quality hard rock and metal. Left 4 Dead are passionate musicians who plan to travel the world doing what they love: performing—and they never disappoint. “The reality of the world is we might not wake up tomorrow,” the band says, “so we always give it our all”.
